Slate Stone - Chemical & Physical Properties
.............................................................
Slate is a fine-grained, homogeneous,
sedimentary, multilayered rock composed of clay and mica group
minerals. It may contain oxides, calcites, quartz and feldspar in varying
amounts. The hardness, tensility, absorbency and abrasion resistance
differ from slate to slate due to the process of hardening and formation
they haveundergone and the relative amount of matters they consist of.
The main discerning feature of slate stones are the colour which may be
black, green or mottled. Color of slate stones gives considerable idea of
the properties of the stone.
